5 Delicious Things to do with Fathead Dough
Let’s face it, ‘Fathead dough’ really has put comfort foods back on the table for keto and low-carb folk! Luckily I discovered the dough pretty soon into my keto journey and it’s been a lifesaver. I mean, what the hell did people make their keto pizzas from pre fathead 🤦♀️
For those of you who aren’t familiar with it (hello do you live under a rock) jokes, fathead dough is a faux dough….oh I’m on a roll (no pun intended) 🤣Anyway, it’s a dough made using a mixture of grated mozzarella, ground almonds and cream cheese. To those out there who don’t follow a low carb diet this will sound disgusting. However, for those of us who try our best to live low carb, this dough is fricken awesome 🙌
There’s savoury options such as pizza, pies, pierogi, bagels, crackers. And then theres the sweet options, by just tweaking a few ingredients you can make delicious sweet keto pastry treats. Things such as cinnabons, danish pastries, and sweet pies. With so many amazing recipes floating around out there, I thought it would be a good idea to gather the best ones in one place! So here are my ‘5 Delicious things to do with fathead dough’ 😀
1. Chocolate Walnut Swirls
Em, yeah so i’ll just leave this here for you all to drool on 😛. What amazes me is just how creative people get when they are restricted. Like I bet that you could tell a room full of strangers that it is possible to eat comfort foods on keto and I bet they would either laugh at you or say what’s keto! These chocolate walnut swirls from All Day I Dream About Food remind me of a low carb pain au chocolat. They are the kind of thing that everyone wants to eat for breakfast on Saturdays with a hot coffee. At 2g carbs per serving you could happily munch on this EVERY day and never kick yourself out of ketosis. Click on the link for the recipe!
2. Pizza 🍕
Most folk like something ‘tasty’ at the weekends. Things like a MASSIVE YUMMY PIZZA. Thanks to fathead dough, you no longer have to mash a cauliflower and eat it as a pizza . Of course there are so many variations of recipes out there and it really is down to preference which one you use. Some people use coconut flour to keep it nut free or others omit the cream cheese to create more of a dough like texture. The great thing about this dough is that you can experiment with it until you find the best version for you. Check out this delicious version from That Low Carb Life coming in at 2g carbs per slice of the good stuff!
Fathead dough bagels gives you all the flavour of a real bagel without the hefty carb count. There is something just so satisfying in eating a toasted bagel with cream cheese that you simply cannot get from eating a bowl of bacon! Thankfully, our favourite superhero dough swoops in again to create these sexy keto bagels. It’s 6g of carbs per bagel and totally worth every bite. 4. Raspberry Cream Cheese Danish
I am 100% more into the sweet stuff than I am the savoury things. Pizza is actually something I could live without. I don’t crave it but will eat it if it’s put in front of me. Pastries on the other hand, are my KRYPTONITE. I cannot get enough of pastries in any form but especially breakfast pastries like croissants, cinnamon swirls and danishes. This recipe from ME is so good and comes in at just 1g carb per slice (recipe makes 12 servings). It is of course a variation of the fathead dough recipe but it’s my variation and to my preference, so feel free to tweak as desired! Recipe from Ketonab .
5. Chicken and Ham Pie
This is comfort food 101 thanks to fathead dough! Nobody wants just the filling of the pie, the pastry is the good stuff. The fact that some genius has created a pie from fathead dough makes me positively optimistic that some day a cat will be president 🤣🤣🤣. This recipe from Low Carb Nikki is a classic creamy chicken pie made low carb. Again with all the recipes, the beauteous thing is that you can tweak them to your own preference!
Fathead dough really is wonderfully versatile and is a beauteous thing that adds so much variety and comfort to a low carb diet. Make the recipes, add things in you like, remove things you don’t like and get creative!
