What is Keto?

The’ ketogenic’ diet or ‘keto’ for short is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins diet favoured by 90’s celebs. The keto diet involves upping your daily fat intake and drastically reducing your carb intake to between 20g and 50g per day. This helps you to produce ‘ketones’ and achieve a scientific state known as ‘ketosis’.

The human body can only run on either glucose (blood sugar) energy or ‘ketones’. Ketones are an alternative fuel source and are produced if you eat very few carbs. The liver makes these ‘ketones’ from fat and they serve to fuel your body.
